A Bit of Financial Relief

As my earlier cartoon demonstrated, we've been waiting patiently by the mailbox for a bit of financial relief.  Our checking account had dwindled to a depressing dollar and some odd cents, forcing us to stay inside and twiddle our thumbs.  However, I am happy to report that some very helpful things have come through the mail as of late.  It turns out God does indeed use the U.S. Postal Service when delivering miracles.

On Wednesday I got the paycheck from Dialogue Direct.  I worked a grand total of twelve hours for them before quitting, and received a little over one hundred dollars.  I had almost forgotten about them completely, so it came as a happy little surprise.  The money served me well since I needed to submit a fee with a school application I was submitting.  More on that later this week.

Saturday proved to be the best day.  Not only did we receive the highly-anticipated check from Brian's closed mutual fund (we're talking a couple thousand dollars here so imagine our joy), but we also received our belated W-2s.  With the money we were able to pay our bills, but most importantly we can breathe easy knowing we can survive another month or so.  And with all of our tax information finally here, we were both able to file our 2010 Federal and State Income Taxes.  Brian uses Turbo Tax and I use Tax Act.  So in another week or two, we should be getting some more money!

It sure is nice not to be broke.  We were seriously this close to selling our organs or prostituting on the corner...
