Wizard Week: 'Harry Potter' Was Almost a Cartoon!

In an interview with the Los Angeles Times, Alan Horn (President of Warner Bros.) revealed that the Harry Potter franchise was almost an animated one!  Yep, Steven Spielberg wanted to direct it, but not in live action.  Now, I love me some animation, but it's pretty hard to imagine the movies any other way.  And what's more, Spielberg wanted to combine the story lines from more than one book to create one movie.

Why am I explaining all this?  Just read Alan Horn's statement for yourself!  Gosh, lazies, you want me to do everything for you...
“I did think it would be worthwhile for Steven Spielberg to direct,” Horn said. “We offered it to him. But one of the notions of Dreamworks’ and Steven’s was, ‘Let’s combine a couple of the books, let’s make it animated,’ and that was because of the [visual effects and] Pixar had demonstrated that animated movies could be extremely successful. Because of the wizardry involved, they were very effects-laden. So I don’t blame them. But I did not want to combine the movies, and I wanted it to be live action.”
So luckily, Spielberg was out and Chris Columbus was in (the director of Home Alone, not the discoverer of America)!

And speaking of a drawn Harry, do any of you ever check out the fan art?  Well, it's all over the internet so check it out sometime!  Here are a few of my favorites:
