Wizard Week: Rupert and Emma Discuss THE KISS!

There has been plenty of snogging in both the Harry Potter novels and movies.  We've seen Harry kiss Cho or Harry kiss Ginny.  We've seen Ron kissing Lavender.  We even saw an imaginary kiss between Harry and Hermione that was really all in Ron's tortured head.  But we have yet to see Ron and Hermione kiss!  There's only been a decade of sexual tension!

In the book Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows (Chapter 31, page 625) the kiss goes a little something like this:
There was a clatter as the basilisk fangs cascaded out of Hermione's arms.  Running at Ron, she flung them around his neck and kissed him full on the mouth.  Ron threw away the fangs and broomstick he was holding and responded with such enthusiasm that he lifted Hermione off her feet.
Isn't that just romantic?  Well, it may be so in the book but kissing on set is anything but.  In an interview with The Telegraph, Emma Watson said, "It was awkward, and it was a lot of pressure as well.  Can you imagine building up to a kiss for like ten years.  How am I going to do this justice?  I feel like it’s the most anticipated kiss of all time, so it was intense."

Rupert Grint felt just as awkward.  He also spoke with The Telegraph and had this to say:  "It's weird saying this because, um, I’m sure loads of guys are just really jealous, because, um, yeah, she’s lovely.  It just felt so wrong really kissing this person who I’ve known since she was nine… As we were doing it her face was getting closer and closer and closer.  It just felt kind of really unnatural."

Yikes!  This kiss sounds awful!  But Emma did go on to say, "But, you know, we did it and it’s kinda cute and, you know, it was good.”  I'm sure glad to see that they got through the torture of it all.

Daniel Radcliffe agrees that the kiss is, indeed, "cute."  In an interview with E! News, Daniel said, "What's nice is that it's there but it's not lingered on. I'm sure Ron and Hermione will get a big applause from the audience, and they should, they've been waiting long enough to see that happen. But what's lovely is the part after they break up and start laughing, I can see that it's just Rupert and Emma."

Upon seeing the final result, Rupert, however, seems a bit underwhelmed by the whole thing. "Such a small, small moment," he says, "Yeah, that's going to be a bit of an anticlimax."

So will it be simple and sweet or just plain boring?  I guess we'll have to wait and see!
